A British power electronics project begun as a tribute to Atrax Morgue, built on old analogue synths and small physical editions.
S.T.A.B. Electronics is the project of Keith G. Finnan, who comes from the north end of Liverpool. He had earlier recorded darker industrial ambient as Einheit 731; after the death of Marco Corbelli of Atrax Morgue, one of his favourite artists, he took the S.T.A.B. name as a tribute. Asked in 2014 what it stands for, he said it can mean whatever the listener wants. His first track under the name appeared on a tribute tape to Streicher.
The first releases came in 2010 on cassettes for the Finnish label Filth and Violence, Born for Righteous Abuse and Temple of Self-Disgust. The Non Alliant I (2011) and II (2012) followed as LPs on Unsound Recordings, which later collected both on CD (2019). The Milan label Urashima issued Instrument for Operating on Mutant Women (2014), recorded in 2012 and 2013 and dedicated to Corbelli.
Since then the main home has been Unrest Productions: Day of the Male (2015), the LP Enemy of Pigs (2019) and a cassette trilogy from Apotheosis (Before Perdition) (2020) to Welcome to Perdition (Hell Is Home) (2023). Old Europa Cafe released Funerals in 2023. The project also appears on the first Tormentum compilation (2020) from TORM Ent., alongside Institution D.O.L. and others.
In the 2014 interview Finnan named Con-Dom, Streicher, The Grey Wolves, Genocide Organ, Whitehouse and The Sodality among his influences, with Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire and early EBM behind them. He works with older analogue Korgs and a Yamaha DX7, prefers "a dirtier sound", and in 2014 had no time for digital downloads.
I keep S.T.A.B. Electronics at Tier III: a committed British project in the classic power electronics line, documented mostly on small vinyl and cassette editions.
