Two decades of Austrian power electronics from Barbie B., and then a quiet piano record about Aleister Crowley.
Institution D.O.L. is the solo project of the Austrian musician who records as Barbie B.; Discogs links him to the name Matthias Beisl. Edged Circle Productions dates the project to 1997. Its first CD, (Cultural) Death by Consumism / Die Macht, appeared in 2000 on the Austrian label TORM Ent. in 23 copies.
Through the mid-2000s the Austrian label Steinklang Industries carried the catalogue: Eleven Anticlerical Supersongs and With Her I Had Some Tropical Feelings (both 2005), the DVD This Is My Life (2006) and Instructions for Modern Weakniks (2007). The project also contributed "Samurai of Noise" to Steinklang's 2005 tribute to Koji Tano of MSBR. After a gap, Klanggalerie issued 17 Shameless Years (2015), Exzess (2016) and Caeremonia Inferna Vindobonae (2017).
Back on TORM Ent., Our Love Can Destroy This Whole Fucking World (2019) was made in Austria and Germany between 2016 and 2018. The Thelema Tales (2020) changed direction: six pieces about Aleister Crowley and Thelema, composed in Italy and Austria between 2015 and 2019, with piano by Wolfgang J. Eder and field recordings from a 2015 trip to Sicily. The Norwegian label Edged Circle Productions reissued it on LP in 2021 and released Agape :93: in 2026.
TORM Ent. also issues the Tormentum compilations; the first volume (2020) includes Institution D.O.L. and S.T.A.B. Electronics.
I keep Institution D.O.L. at Tier III: a long Austrian catalogue in power electronics that ends, for now, somewhere much quieter.
