Ordo Equilibrio is the project Tomas Pettersson founded in 1993, in Stockholm, after winding up Archon Satani, the death-ambient duo he had run with Mikael Stavöstrand. The Bureau files it at Tier II on founding and tradition-internal centrality: it is one of the most-cited names in the post-industrial neofolk field, it carried a significant Cold Meat Industry catalogue, and it marks the point at which one half of Archon Satani moved decisively out of drone and into a rhythmic, march-and-voice idiom. The file is held under the Ordo Equilibrio name, the name of the 1990s records, with the later evolution into Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio set out below.
The project began as a duo with Chelsea Krook, Pettersson's then-partner, who sang on and shared the early records. Together they made three full-length albums and a 7″ under the Ordo Equilibrio name. The sound was a clear break from Archon Satani: looped military marches, neoclassical string samples, orchestral swells and spoken-word recitation, built on structural repetition and a sense of procession, with medieval-sounding acoustic ballads lighting the colder material. Where Archon Satani had been atmospheric and drone-based, Ordo Equilibrio was rhythmic, declamatory and song-shaped · an apocalyptic neofolk rather than a dark-ambient project.
The catalogue runs in three steps. Reaping the Fallen... The First Harvest (1995, Cold Meat Industry CMI.32) is the début, often described as a classic of gothic, icy, desolate material relieved by Krook's acoustic ballads. The Triumph of Light... and Thy Thirteen Shadows of Love (1997) is an anti-Christian concept album in a form of profane folk, the record on which the Death In June influence is clearest. Conquest, Love & Self Perseverance (1998) closes the Ordo Equilibrio sequence. Across all three the project worked deliberately provocative material · esotericism, profanity, and a libertine treatment of love, war, eroticism and Christian symbols. The Bureau files this thematic content as documented, in the register of the form's history, without endorsing it; the provocation is part of what the records are, and is recorded as such.
In 2001 the line-up changed: Chelsea Krook left and was replaced by Rose-Marie Larsen, and the project was renamed Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio (ORE), the word Rosarius added to mark the new phase. Under that name the catalogue continued and broadened · albums including Make Love And War (The Wedlock Of Roses) (2001) and Cocktails Carnage Crucifixion And Pornography, a split with Spiritual Front, and a long run of subsequent releases · and the project remains active. The Bureau treats Ordo Equilibrio and Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio as one continuous project under two names, filed here under the earlier one because the 1990s Cold Meat Industry albums are the entries on which its place in this archive rests. It stands, with Inanna, as one of the two paths the members of Archon Satani took after 1993: Stavöstrand toward the doom-ambient death sonics of Inanna, Pettersson toward the martial neofolk of Ordo Equilibrio.
